Award-winning Nigerian writer, Chimamanda Adichie has expressed her hope that her new honor and chieftaincy title would inspire other women to strive for similar achievements and called on culture custodians to celebrate both men and women equally.

Adichie became the first woman in her hometown of Abba, Anambra State to be honored with a chieftaincy title after she was given the title of “Odeluwa,” which translates to “The one who writes for the world,” by the traditional ruler of Abba, Igwe L.N. Ezeh.

In a Facebook post, Adichie Adichie remarked that cultures thrive when they best reflect and serve the people and that it was important for Nigerian culture to celebrate achievement, regardless of whether it comes from a man or a woman
