Who says your present conditions stop you from imagining the big dreams? Meet Precious Sibalo who changed her narrative from being a waitress and flight attendant for years and now a commercial airline pilot.
Since the day she saw pilots during a school trip to the airport, she began to dream of becoming a pilot. She even realized that she didn’t see any female pilots at that time and this got her more inspired to pursue a male-dominated career.
However, her dream had to be put on hold when she became a young mother at the age of 17 and also lost her mother around that time. She grieved and never wanted to put her daughter away, so she had to pick up the responsibility of providing for her own family.
Precious relocated to South Africa to work as a waitress and a part-time model before moving to Dubai where she also worked as a waitress. In just 3 months in Dubai, she took the opportunity to work at Qatar Airways as a cabin crew member.
That’s when her dream of becoming a pilot started to resurface. She was about to get promoted to a senior cabin member after years of working as a cabin crew. Instead, she opted to revive her dream of becoming a pilot by enrolling in an aviation school in 2017.
Now, she holds an Airline Transport Pilot License, the world’s highest level of Aircraft Pilot License from 43 Air School in South Africa. She is currently building momentum as a pilot in South Africa and hopes to work with Qatar Airways again as a pilot for their biggest planes.
