Taraji P. Henson may not have won an Emmy on Sunday night for her role as Cookie Lyon on Fox’s hit drama Empire (returning for season three this week!), but she gave us all a master class on how to be an awesome friend.
During the evening, Taraji and friend Regina King shared the sweetest celebration moment as it was announced that Regina had won the award for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Limited Series or Movie for her role in American Crime for the second consecutive year.
Although this wasn’t the first time Taraji has been spotted celebrating black girl magic—her genuine love for Regina made us all wish she was part of our squad. Every black woman needs a friend like Taraji, and here are four reasons why.
She’s personable.
Taraji’s “around the way” and down to earth personalty is refreshingly authentic. She is like that sister you never had who will not hesitate to pull you into a hug after giving you a dose of tough love or that bestie who will give you great relationship advice.
She’s genuinely happy for your success.
Taraji P. Henson was elated that Viola Davis became the first African-American woman to win Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series at the 2015 Emmys. Like so many others, a teary-eyed Taraji gave Viola a standing ovation when her name was called at the star-studded proving that sisterhood amongst black women is real.

Possibly the best Apple commercial we’ve ever seen—and yes we’re biased—Taraji, along with Mary J. Blige and Kerry Washington, shows off her dance moves in the ultimate black girl magic chill moment. This combined with her lovable personality pretty much guarantees there’s never a dull moment when she’s around.
