The highly anticipated nominations for the 53rd National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP) Image Awards has been announced.
The nominations were announced Tuesday in a virtual ceremony on NAACP’s Instagram channel, hosted by actress Kyla Pratt, Black-ish actor, Marcus Scribner, and singer Tinashe.
H.E.R. takes the top spot in the music categories with six nods, while Chlöe, Drake, Silk Sonic and Jazmine Sullivan follow closely with four.
Four Nigerians make the cut: Wizkid, Tiwa Savage, Omah Lay and Fireboy, bagged nominations in the Outstanding International Song category. Grammy winner Wizkid was nominated for his “Essence”, featuring Tems and Justin Bieber, Tiwa Savage was recognised for “Somebody’s Son”, featuring Brandy, Kidi and Omah Lay received nominations for their song, “Touch it”, and “Understand” and Fireboy DML got nominated for his hit song, “Peru”.
Meanwhile, Insecure received the most nominations in the television + streaming categories and Jennifer Hudson, Lil Nas X, Megan Thee Stallion, Regina King and Tiffany Haddish are all vying for Entertainer of the Year!
Netflix takes lead with 52 noms overall for titles across film and TV including The Harder They Fall, Passing, Bruised, The Upshaws and Maid.
Hosted by seven-time NAACP Image Awards winner, Black-ish Anthony Anderson, winners will be announced during the two-hour live television special, airing on Saturday, February 26th, 2022 at 8:00 PM ET/PT on BET.
