Viola Hosana Cheeseman is a Liberian scholar, technology expert, and youth leader. Born and raised in Liberia, West Africa, she has always demonstrated a passion for learning, innovation, and community development. From a young age, Viola showed a keen interest in technology and leadership, which has shaped her academic path and professional pursuits, making her a recognizable figure in both African and international STEM and youth development circles.
Viola is currently pursuing her Ph.D. in Cyber Science and Engineering at Wuhan University in China, where her research focuses on advanced cyber systems, emerging technologies, and their applications in solving complex digital challenges. Whether through on-campus study or a virtual/online format, her commitment to academic excellence and innovative thinking positions her as a rising thought leader, combining technical mastery with a clear vision for the future of technology.
Her academic journey reflects dedication to both depth and breadth of knowledge. She earned her Master of Science in Information Systems from Obafemi Awolowo University, Nigeria, in 2021, following a B.Sc. in Information Technology from the United Methodist University, Liberia, in 2017. These achievements have provided her with a solid foundation in computational theory, system design, and information management, which informs her research, teaching, and leadership initiatives.
Beyond her academic accomplishments, Viola is deeply passionate about technology education and digital empowerment. She believes that broadening access to computer literacy is essential for creating equitable opportunities in today’s digital economy. Over the years, she has mentored students and young professionals, inspiring them to pursue careers in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM), while fostering innovation and critical problem-solving skills.
Viola is also highly active in youth development and civic engagement. She serves as Promotional Supervisor for the Youth Parliament Liberia Chapter, helping young Liberians engage in advocacy, leadership, and public policy. Additionally, she is the Assistant Executive Director of Youth Empowerment Society (YES Liberia), where she leads programs focused on mentorship, social innovation, and youth development, bridging education with tangible community impact.
At the Institute of Climate Change and Health Research (ICCHR), Viola serves as the Lead Facilitator for the Social Intrapreneurship for Innovation in Healthcare and Introduction to AI Education (100% Online) courses. She is also a member of CORACLE (Center Of Research And Community Leadership Engagement), contributing to interdisciplinary research and community projects that integrate technology, healthcare, and leadership. Her work demonstrates a rare ability to combine academic rigor with practical societal impact.
