Forbes has brought out its highly anticipated 2020 list of the world’s highest paid actresses and we’ve got to say FINALLY How To Get Away With Murder Star, Viola Davis, with an illustrious career, an Oscar, an Emmy and two Tony Awards, makes the list for the very first time grabbing the 10th spot with $15.5 million following her role in How To Get Away With Murder and the upcoming Netflix film Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom.
Proudly clinching the top spot is Modern Family‘s Sofia Vergara, 38 with a staggering $43 million many thanks to her role as Gloria on ABC’s Modern Family, for which she earned $500,000 per episode, and her new job as a TV talent judge on America’s Got Talent, which pays her at least $10 million each season. She padded that income with a series of endorsement and licensing deals to rack up the sum, Forbes reports.
Hollywood veteran Angelina Jolie ($35 million) takes the second spot while Red Notice star Gal Gadot follows closely with ($31 million). Alongside Davis who makes her grand entrance is Emily Blunt who gets her big paycheck from upcoming flicks Jungle Cruise and A Quiet Place 2 (No. 6; $22.5 million) while Scarlett Johansson, who topped last year’s list with earnings of $56 million doesn’t even make the top ten as this year her earnings are down by more than $40 million, leaving her off the list entirely, the site reports.
Generally, the ten highest-paid actresses earned a combined $254 million in the 12 months leading up to June, down 20% from last year with all but two—Angelina Jolie and Emily Blunt (No. 6; $22.5 million)—making the bulk of their earnings from television and streaming. While gender pay inequity in Hollywood sees the ten highest-paid male actors collecting a whopping $545.5 million this year, almost double that of their female peers.
