The much anticipated upcoming Aretha Franklin biopic #Respect, starring Dreamgirls star Jennifer Hudson, has set its release date to January 15, 2021, during MLK weekend instead of Christmas weekend like originally intended, Deadline reports.
Following the eligibility deadline of the Oscars being extended to the end of February, Respect still stands eligible.
Respect movie follows the rise of Aretha Franklin’s career from a child singing in her father’s church’s choir to her international superstardom. It tells the story of how the music icon found her voice.
Directed by Liesl Tommy and penned by Tracey Scott Wilson, the film also stars Forest Whitaker, Marlon Wayans, Audra McDonald, Marc Maron, Tituss Burgess, Saycon Sengbloh, Hailey Kilgore, Tate Donovan, Heather Headley, Skye Dakota Turner, and Mary J. Blige.
